Tributes to former councillor John Marjoram

Former Stroud District Councillor John Marjoram

Stroud District Council chair Kate Kay has paid tribute to former Councillor John Marjoram, who served as a district councillor for 35 years.

“On behalf of Stroud District Council, I would like to pay tribute to John Marjoram, who sadly passed away on Saturday, May 16.

“The member for Trinity Ward, he served as a Green district councillor for 35 years from 1986 until he retired from active politics in 2021. He served with great passion and knowledge on many committees, most notably development control committee for almost all of that time.

“The thoughts of everyone at Stroud District Council are with John’s family and many friends at this very sad time.

“Councillors will be welcome to share their memories of John and pay tribute to him at the full council meeting on Thursday, May 22.”

John also served as a founder member of Stroud Town Council from 1990 and introduced the Mayor’s Bench for conversations with the public. He was made a Freeman of Stroud town in 2023.

The council meeting on Thursday will be open to the public to attend at Ebley Mill, Ebley Wharf, GL5 4UB and it can be viewed live online or as a recording on the Council’s YouTube channel: www.youtube.com/@strouddistrictcouncil1974
