Dog fouling

It remains a legal requirement for all individuals in charge of a dog (excluding those with a registered assistance dog) to clean up after their dog has fouled. This obligation extends to any location in the District accessible to the public. Those observed not cleaning up may receive a fixed penalty notice of £75, or face a maximum fine of £1000 if the matter proceeds to Court.

The Council has installed approximately 500 specific dog waste bins throughout the District. However, dog walkers can also utilize any litter bin or their own general household waste bin to dispose of their dog waste. Failure to dispose of bags of collected fouling in the correct manner can also result in a Fixed Penalty Notice of £75 for littering.
