Apprenticeships
Our apprenticeship programme at Stroud District Council offers a valuable gateway into the professional realm, serving as a compelling option for those considering alternatives to traditional college or university paths. With us, you have the opportunity to embark on a journey of continuous learning, whilst also commencing your earning journey. We are dedicated to nurturing your growth during your placement. This is supported with consistent reviews with your line manager and tutor, tailored in-house training and regular action learning sets, giving you an opportunity to network with your fellow apprentices and build a strong sense of
We are very proud of our Apprenticeship Scheme and boast many success stories.
Please read a testimonial from our Apprentice Ambassador, Alice Hanman, who is currently undertaking a Level 3 in our Finance Team.
"I chose an apprenticeship with Stroud District Council as I wanted to gain experience in the financial sector without leaving full time work. By pursuing a new qualification, I have increased my knowledgebase both in work and in learning. I get one day a week at college dedicated to my exam studies and I’m currently building a portfolio of evidence from my role at work. My finance team have supported me through my Level 2 and Level 3 qualifications, and I couldn’t have asked for better colleagues. I never knew if university was the right choice for me, however I’m glad I decided to do an apprenticeship as I wholeheartedly believe they are the way forward for young people looking to get on the right career path. The skills I’ve acquired can’t be taught in a classroom and by being in a real-life work environment, the rewards are far beyond what I could have imagined. I now know I am passionate about accounting and look forward to progressing even further within finance."
Our dedicated team in HR work closely with training providers to ensure that you receive an enriched and rewarding experience with us. We have also joined the South-West Apprenticeship Ambassador Network (SWANN), an organisation dedicated to championing and raising awareness on apprenticeships.
Work experience
We have operated a structured work experience programme for almost 10 years, successfully placing over 50 students into work experience opportunities every year. The programme is based on the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) good practice model, enabling schools, colleges, and employers, to focus work experience on employability skills.
We actively support unpaid work experience placements from all sections of the community, including school and university students; graduates; the unemployed and adults with learning and/or physical disabilities.
As one of the largest local employers we can provide you with an overview of the wide range of services we provide and an introduction to working in a busy, varied, and professional environment. You will receive an induction, a health and safety briefing, and opportunities to undertake some project work and e-learning modules.
You may have an interest in planning applications, community safety, or environmental health or maybe one of our support functions such as IT or Human Resources. We aim to provide placements in the areas that are of interest to you.
