Stroud District Council Asset Surveyor Becky Meadon is in the running for the ‘Woman of the Future’ award at the Women in Housing and Housing Heroes Awards 2024.
In her role, Becky oversees the planned programmes of works for windows and doors, fire doors and door entry systems for the 5,000 social housing properties and 175 blocks within the council’s stock.
Becky embraces every opportunity to learn and develop her skills and knowledge within housing including undertaking training and qualifications in fire doors, asbestos awareness; Housing Health and Safety Rating System (HHSRS) and roofing systems. She has completed scaffold inspection training and the Site Management Safety Training Scheme (SMSTS) which allows her to manage construction sites for the council.
She has also found new and innovative ways of working including modernising the council’s surveying processes by taking a drone piloting course, and she has recently completed a qualification to become an energy assessor, and she will begin her HNC in Construction in the Built Environment in September 2024.
Becky’s manager, Tara Skidmore Head of Assets and Investment (council housing) said she is delighted but not surprised at the news.
“Becky has been a shining star at the council since she started with us,” said Tara. “It has been a pleasure to watch her grow in her knowledge and her confidence. Her enthusiasm, professionalism, and the high standards she sets herself has had a positive impact on the whole housing team which, in turn, is felt by the people we serve.
“She gets stuck into any new task and undertakes her work with rigour and dedication. We are so proud of Becky, and we look forward to continuing to support her to prosper in her future career in housing.”
Becky added: “I’m really proud of this achievement, the biggest of my career so far and just to be nominated and recognised is a huge honour for which I’m extremely thankful. I’m very lucky to get to work with such an amazing group of incredibly knowledgeable and supportive colleagues and am really pleased to be representing Stroud District Council at these awards.”
The finals of the Women in Housing and Housing Heroes Awards will take place on Monday 24 June in Manchester.
