SDC Leader's blog - w/c 16 December 2024
“There was a real buzz at Stroud Brewery last Thursday, for the consultation on the Brimscombe Port development plans. I enjoyed chatting with people about the proposals and hearing about the infrastructure plans to restore the port basin and canal, that will happen before any work starts to build the 144 new homes and other facilities. Consultation on the updated proposals is open until 17 January.
At the council meeting this Thursday, Brimscombe Port is once again on the agenda, and councillors will be asked to agree the purchase of new commercial units on the site. Responses to recent questions have now been added to the council’s website.
At the council meeting, we’ll also take a moment to remember Sir David McMurtry, as well as former district councillor John Jeffries. Given our commitment to climate action, Council will then be asked to support a clean energy charter. Much faster progress is needed to reach climate targets, and we are keen to play our role with the deployment of renewable energy across Stroud district.
Work continues on our draft Local Plan for Stroud district, which will confirm the areas for future development. We’ve now submitted final evidence to the Planning Inspectors and expect to receive an update in the new year.
Finally, I’d like to congratulate the three community-led crowd-funding projects, under our new Stroud Funding programme, which have successfully reached their fundraising target! There are 14 more projects on the site, so please do take a look and make a pledge if you’d like to see these fantastic local projects brought to life. ”
