Stroud District Council marks 50 years with festive commemorative tree planting

Commemorative tree planting in Stratford Park

Stroud District Council celebrated 50 years of serving communities, with a tree planting at Stratford Park.

Stroud District Council was set up in April 1974 from smaller rural and urban districts, and to mark the half century, a 3-metre-high commemorative Norway Spruce was planted in Stratford Park which is owned and managed by Stroud District Council.

The official ‘breaking the ground’ was carried out on Sunday 15 December by SDC Chair Kate Kay, alongside Councillor Steve Robinson and Cllr Paul Turner, followed by the tree planting decoration, by Stroud District Council officers.

“This commemorative tree planting marks 50 years of Stroud District Council, and I couldn’t be more proud of the work the Council has achieved in that time,” said Cllr Kay.

Stratford Park, now home to the Norway Spruce, is an award-winning space for the local community, with both Active Lifestyles Stroud leisure centre and The Museum in the Park on site, providing accessible and low-cost activities for residents in the district.

The tree can be found between the entrance to the lido and the pathway to Active Lifestyles Stroud, when approaching from the public car park.
