Stroud Funding: One month left to apply for a slice of £100k

Have you heard about Stroud Funding

There’s just one month left to join the first phase of Stroud Funding, Stroud District Council’s new crowdfunding campaign and apply for a share of £100,000 to improve their local areas.

Stroudfunding – Crowdfunding for the Stroud District is an initiative by the district council to help local groups raise funding for community improvement projects. The scheme is open to schools, sports clubs, community organisations and individuals, providing them with the opportunity to access funds for initiatives that will benefit their communities.

Projects that align with the council’s priorities, such as those addressing environment and climate change or enhancing community resilience and wellbeing, could receive up to £10,000 of SDC’s £100,000 fund, capped at 50% of the crowdfunding campaign target.

Community crowdfunding is an innovative way to raise money for ideas that will improve local areas, such as developing skills, promoting sustainability, bringing people together, providing training, or transforming community spaces. People can pledge money towards the cost of projects that appeal to them via the online community fundraising platform.

Cllr Beki Aldam, Chair of SDC’s Community Services & Licensing Committee, said:

“Community crowdfunding is a fabulous way for people to fund ideas that will improve their community.

“We spoke to an incredible variety of projects who expressed an interest at our two launch events. But don’t worry if you couldn’t attend one, all the information future projects need is online.”

SDC has partnered with Spacehive, a platform dedicated to community fundraising used by local authorities across the UK. Spacehive has helped launch over 2,000 community-led projects and raised over £30 million to support local ideas to date.

Successful Spacehive projects in other areas include £24,000 to fund plans for a community-led housing development; £111,000 to build a library and community space; £31,000 to launch a night club for people with learning disabilities; and £26,000 to replace a croquet club clubhouse.

Stroud District Council and Spacehive are keen to hear from residents and groups with ideas to improve their local area. No fundraising experience is necessary—65% of Spacehive creators are starting a community project for the first time. Spacehive assists project creators with online workshops, 1-2-1 support, and resources, and provides advice on everything from project costs to campaign promotion.
